A 24-year-old United States-based Guyanese man was shot and killed in Queens, New York, on Friday during a confrontation with a driver, who allegedly crashed into his car.

Dead is Anthony Ali. He worked as a jewellery store clerk.

According to a CBS2 New York report, Ali was driving near 89th Avenue and 116th Street in Queens, New York around 10pm on Friday when the driver of a black Infiniti sedan hit the back of his car.

“Investigators say Ali had words with the driver, who then pulled out a handgun,” the report said.

The report added that Ali attempted to drive off but was shot to his face and chest. He then crashed into a nearby light police.

According to the report, the suspect fled the scene.

Police described the incident as a road rage episode.

CBS2 New York reported that the dead man’s father, Mahamood Ali, was trying to come to grips with his death.

“My son is a very good guy. Come home, he say that he’s coming back,” the report quoted Mahamood Ali saying.

The report added that Anthony spoke to his parents before the incident and told them that he was returning home to walk his new puppy.

Ali’s family told CBS2 New York that he loved fashion and cars and had only purchased his own vehicle a few months ago.

The CBS2 New York report also stated that residents of the area said they can’t believe a road rage dispute happened on such a quiet residential street.

“What’s even more sad is that people are in such a rush for things that when they make a mistake, instead of taking responsibility of it, they pull out a gun, and a person ends up losing their life over a simple drive,” Richmond Hill resident Chavez Robinson said.
