A man was on Friday granted bail in the sum of $200,000 after he was charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Irving Fraser, 45, of Lot 23 D’Urban Street, Lodge, made his appearance before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the George-town Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on August 9th, 2021, while at D’Urban Street, Lodge, Fraser had in his possession a firearm, when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
It is also alleged that on the same day and time, he had in his possession 14 9mm rounds of ammunition, when he was not a firearm holder.
The court prosecutor’s facts said that based on information received, police visited the home of the accused where a search was conducted and a Glock 19 pistol was found in a room.
Fraser was questioned and he reportedly admitted ownership of the weapon. He was subsequently told of the offence, cautioned and arrested.
However, Fraser pleaded not guilty to both charges. His attorney, Stanley Moore, in an application for bail, told the court that the weapon was not found on his client but rather in a house where other persons live.
He added that his client had no previous conviction and was diabetic.
The court prosecutor objected to bail, while maintaining that the accused claimed ownership of the weapon.
Fraser was eventually granted bail in the amount of $100,000 on each charge.
The matters were adjourned to September 3rd, 2021.
