Guyana’s top male badminton player, Narayan Ramdhani, last weekend captured two gold medals at the Kings University 2021 Open Summer badminton tournament in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Ramdhani won the medals in the men’s singles and mixed doubles categories.
In the final of the men’s singles, Ramdhani defeated Calvin Kwan 21-6, 21-10 after advancing with a 21-10, 21-18 win over Calvin Siu in the semi-finals.
Earlier, Ramdhani earned a first round bye and went on to beat Jatin Rathour 21-5, 21-10 in the second round before beating Kyle Gomez 21-10 in the quarter finals.
Meanwhile in the mixed doubles, Ramdhani collaborated with Abby Ledda to defeat Sunny Singh and Manasi Pandi 23-21, 21-16 in the final.
Earlier, the pair also gained a first round bye and beat Joe Lu and Jing Yang 21-13, 21-10 in the second round.
Afterwards the dup brushed aside William and Eyota Kwan 21-7, 21-14 in the quarter-finals to advance to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals they faced their toughest challenge against Rishav Raj and Anna Chakravorty but came out victorious in a 21-15, 18-21, 21-15 match.
Narayan, who is currently studying Business Management on Scholarship, returned to Canada last month after competing in the Guatemala International and Guyana’s national tournament where he won. He also piloted four shuttle time prorammes in Linden, Berbice and one Air Badminton project at the University of Guyana.
He is expected to attend the Mexican International between September 1 and 5 to start his campaign towards Olympics 2024.
