Over 5,000 persons were on Monday vaccinated across the country with Region One currently leading the country’s inoculation programme.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony yesterday who stated that Monday was a “good day” for the country’s inoculation programme. “We have been seeing a steady sum of persons coming to get vaccines and just yesterday alone we recorded one of the highest number of persons coming for vaccines.”
He noted that 5,505 persons received vaccines on Monday, 2,942 of which were first doses, while the remaining 2,563 accounted for the second dose numbers. This, he said, made it one of the best days that the ministry has seen in terms of total persons immunised.
Further, the health minister stated that as of Monday, 290,779 persons in total have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine since the beginning of the immunisation programme here, and this number accounts for 59.7% of the country’s adult population. On the other hand, 149,691 persons have received a second dose which approximates to 30.7% of persons 18 years and older.
As it relates to the regional percentage of first doses administered, Dr Anthony indicated that Region One, with currently 72.9% of its population having received a first dose, has the highest percentage while Region Ten remains the lowest with 21% receiving a first dose.
“So just looking at these first dose numbers we still have a long way to go… for first dose with Region Ten having the lowest amount of persons who have received their first dose vaccine and that’s quite unfortunate that we’re still having a slow uptake in Region Ten,” he said.
