A Berbice man was on Thursday remanded to prison after being charged with raping a pensioner in a home invasion.
Brian Luke, 47, of Albion High Reef, Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate R. Singh at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with rape.
It is alleged that on the day in question, Luke sexually assaulted the woman and then robbed her of $200,000. Cash, suspected to have been stolen in the attack, was recovered by police at the man’s house while they were placing him under arrest.
Luke was not required to plead to the charge and was then remanded to prison after Magistrate Singh refused bail.
He will return to the Albion Magistrate’s Court on September 14.
