A carpenter, who police say was found with a .38 pistol and five matching rounds at a city hotel, was yesterday remanded to prison on charges of illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.
Julian Dow, 49, of Lot 63 Perth Village, East Coast Demerara, made his appearance before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in a Georgetown court.
The charge stated that on August 18, at Hinck Street, Georgetown, Dow had in his possession a Bryco .380 pistol, without being the holder of a firearm licence. On the same day and time, he is also alleged to have had in his possession five live .380 rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.
He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was remanded to prison until September 10, 2021.
The Guyana Police Force had reported that Dow was arrested after police visited the CJ Hotel, located at 21-22 Hinck Street, Lacytown, and conducted a search.
The weapon, according to police, was found in a black single strap bag that Dow was carrying.
He was told of the offences committed, cautioned, arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged.
