In the coming week, the Gift Centre will celebrate its 30th anniversary and to mark the occasion the store has donated fitness equipment to the Ministry of Health, the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre (PRRC) and the Salvation Army.
The Gift Centre, which was founded on August 26, 1991, will celebrate the anniversary on August 26, said in a press release that the donation is part of its initiative “to help get people up and moving again,” as it noted that physical activity is an area which has been overlooked during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The business is sole distributor of YORK Fitness equipment in Guyana.
According to the release, Dr Ariane Mangar, Director of Rehabilitation Services, who received the donation on behalf of the health ministry, noted that the donation will be distributed to various physiotherapy departments of the Ministry of Health countrywide to assist in treating patients with various conditions.
Meanwhile, Vanessa Wickham, Supervisor, of the PRRC’s Physiotherapy Department, said that the exercise equipment received is essential and was made at a time when it was most needed.
The release then went on to state that Steve Sookraj, Programme Director, of the Salvation Army said it will greatly assist the organization in its rehabilitation programme “which aims to transform the lives of men suffering from addictions and reintegrate them into society.”
Among the items donated to the three organizations were dumbbells, jump ropes, ring weights, exercise mats, barbell sets and ankle sets.
For its customers, the Gift Centre said, it will launch an anniversary promotion on Monday. Under the promotion, which will run until December, every $5,000 spent entitles a customer a chance to win one of 30 prizes that will include fitness equipment, appliances and household items, among others, with a grand prize of a YORK home gym.
Additionally, the store said it has launched its website (www.thegiftcentre.gy), through which persons can explore the items that are stocked in store at their convenience.
According to the release, Doris Lewis, Founder and Executive Director, expressed gratitude for the store’s valued customers, staff, friends and supporters as well as what the business has achieved during its existence.
“Our Social Responsibility has always been to assist by contributing to various religious bodies, NGO’s, community activities and programmes that benefit our nation. We at The Gift Centre continue to aspire for perfection, with professionalism and integrity,” the release quotes Lewis as saying.
The Gift Centre is a family-owned and operated business.
