Three more seniors with COVID confirmed dead

The Ministry of Health on Friday confirmed three more COVID-19 fatalities along with 111 new cases of the virus.

The three fatalities were identified by the ministry as an 89-year-old woman from Region One, and a 74-year-old man from Region Ten, who died on August 18, as well as an 80-year-old man from Region Ten, who died on June 8. The ministry did not explain the reason for the over two month delay in confirming the Region Ten death, which raises the death toll for June.

In a brief statement, the ministry noted that the country’s death toll as a result of the virus has increased to 591 with the latest deaths.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard showed 111 new cases, taking the total number of cases recorded in the country to 24,047 to date. The new infections were confirmed after 1,271 more tests were done, thus increasing the total number of tests done to date to 251,230.

According to the regional breakdown of COVID-19 cases, the majority of new infections were reported in regions Four, Nine and Three, with 48, 23 and 21 cases, respectively. The new cases resulted in there being a total of 1,188 active cases, 100 of which were located in institutional isolation while the remainder were in home isolation.

Additionally, 16 persons remained patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.
