A Lindener, who police say attempted to rob a woman, was shot to his right foot during an armed confrontation with police ranks at South Road, Georgetown on Thursday.
The shooting occurred at 4.30 pm between two patrol officers and a suspect, later identified as Akeem Martin, 25, of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden.
The police, in a release, said two armed police ranks were on patrol along Croal Street, Georgetown, when they heard shouts of “thief” from a woman, who was allegedly being attacked by Martin, who was making efforts to take her phone.
Upon being challenged by the police, Martin attempted to escape but was pursued by the ranks, who caught up with him along South Road. As a result, he allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked one of the ranks, who subsequently shot him in his foot.
He was later taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he was admitted under police guard.
