The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has signaled its intention to recruit both a head coach and an assistant coach for the senior national team.
The vacancy was advertised in a local daily publication yesterday.
According to the advertisement, the applicants must possess at least a Cricket West Indies Level II coaching certificate or equivalent.
The candidate must also have “at least two years coaching experience” as well as be a resident in Guyana during the contract period, must be able to efficiently plan, organize and implement a players’/team development programme, must be prepared to submit written proposals, plans and reports to the GCB on all aspects of their coaching assignments and must be able to work unsupervised. The deadline for applications is September 3.
Yesterday, 39-year-old former national first-class fast bowler, Esuan Crandon, who has been functioning as head coach since 2012, confirmed to Stabroek Sport that he will be applying for the position.
Crandon has built himself a reputation of success, winning the West Indies first-class tournament with the Guyana national team, for five straight seasons from 2014/2015 to 2018/2019.
Crandon was also elevated to the West Indies Test side in 2019, where he functioned as the assistant coach in the series win over England. Crandon has also had stints with the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League.
Meanwhile, in recent years, former West Indies batting icon, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, current West Indies assistant Coach, Rayon Griffith and Julian Moore have all taken up the role as assistant coach of the national side.
