President Bissoondyal Singh and members of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) have congratulated Manniram Prashad on his appointment as a Non-Member Director of Cricket West Indies (CWI) and said that he will add value to the organization.
Prashad, whose appointment commenced July 30, joins three other such Directors, Dr. Akshai Mansingh, former West Indies captain Daren Sammy and Debra Coryat-Patton.
Prashad, or Mannie as he is popularly known, is a former Minister in the Government of Guyana and also a former Presi-dential Advisor on Trade and Investment within the Office of the President. He also served as Honorary Consul of Trinidad and Tobago for a number of years, the GCB noted in a release.
“An outstanding and highly successful Insurance Broker in the Carib-bean, Mr. Prashad is also the proprietor of the popular Palm Court nightclub, a past President and present Executive Member of the Private Sector Commission, Consul General for the Phillipines and the Founding President of the Guyana Oil and Gas Energy Chamber,” the release added.
According to the release, Prashad has been following the sport for over four decades and has also served as an administrator of the sport both locally and in the United States of America.
Locally, he has functioned as an Executive member of Georgetown Cricket Club and president of Gandhi Youth Organisa-tion Cricket Club.
Singh said that he was particularly pleased that a Guyanese has secured the fourth and final position of the “Independent Directors”. According to the GCB president Prashad’s very impressive curriculum vitae had clearly bowled over CWI and won him the position unopposed. He expressed confidence that Prashad, with his wealth of knowledge and experience in business, politics, administration and social responsibilities, will be value-added to CWI,” the release stated.
Singh, the release stated, said that he expects Prashad to bring to CWI the same level of commitment and success “he is known in Guyana and further afield,” adding that he was looking forward to working along with the former government minister.
