Minister Ashni Singh has urged yet another Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company to expand its operations to various regions of the country.
The Company Midas BPO Inc. which began operations last year has managed to create 300 jobs in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a release from his office, the senior minister with responsibility for finance has lauded the efforts of Malcolm Sobers, the Chief Executive Officer of Midas BPO Inc. a telemarketing company.
Sobers, a Guyanese with 20 years of experience in the sector currently operates in both Belize and Guyana where he has branches at Grove, East Bank Demerara as well as on Lombard Street, Georgetown. The Lombard Street office is expected within the month to be consolidated with a new office at New Market Street.
The release explained that Sobers has since 2001 worked in Call-Centre operations both in Guyana and in Belize where he was a consultant in the sector.
In Belize he began his own BPO with four agents in 2014 and within five years the business had grown to between 60 to 70 employees. In 2019, Sobers decided to return to Guyana to take up a consultancy and noticed a gap in the sector.
In August 2020, his operations in Guyana began with a few agents working from home and has since grown and now employs approximately 330 agents while its Founder still maintains operations in Belize.
During a visit to the newly established branch on New Market Street, Singh described Sobers’ development as remarkable and ripe for emulation since it highlights that the sector has unique possibilities for success and growth for each agent.
He stressed that this is partly why the Government intends to continue working with the sector to ensure its continued growth, as this will allow for the creation of thousands of jobs and the generation of income for many families. The visit, he added, is in keeping with the PPP/C Government’s larger vision of diversifying the Guyanese economy and ensuring that there is a dynamic economic base.
Singh has been delivering the same message to several BPO’s across the country. Over the
last few months he has visited Qualfon, Express International Incorporated and Emerge BPO.
