Gavin McPherson won the inaugural South Turkeyen Sports Committee ‘King’ domino competition held August 22nd at the Bovell Family residence,Sophia.
McPherson emerged as the eventual champion after defeating Chris McPherson and Dennis Dover in the final. McPherson ended with six games while Chris McPherson and Dover ended on four games apiece.
Meanwhile, the South Turkeyen Sports Committee will host a ‘King’ and `Queen’ dominoes championship’ at Shem’s Hideout in Vryheid Lust tomorrow. A fee of $1,000 will be required to participate in the tournament, with the eventual victors pocketing trophies and cash prizes.
The same committee will also stage a senior and an U16 three-a-side small-goal football competition on Saturday at the Vryheid’s Lust tarmac. The events will see several teams from various villages along the East Coast of Demerara participating. Teams from the villages of Better Hope, Sophia, Ogle, Haslington, Plaisance, Beterverwagting, Golden Grove, Enmore, Ann’s Grove, Paradise, Bare Root, and Melanie expected to feature. An entrance fee of $1,000 per player is required for entry into the senior event.
The winner will receive trophies and medals as well cash prizes. Sponsors of the events include Paul Imports, SleepInn Hotel and Attorney-at-Law Darren Wade. The organiser of the three competitions is Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell.
