Windies pacer Holder set to feature for Warwickshire

Fast bowler Chemar Holder.

LONDON, CMC – Rookie West Indies fast bowler, Chemar Holder, is expected to arrive in England tomorrow to begin a four-match first class stint with Warwickshire, after signing a deal with the West Midlands outfit for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old has been with the West Indies group in Jamaica for the two-Test tour against Pakistan but did not feature.

He could make his debut as early as Monday when Warwickshire takes on Lancashire at Old Trafford in a key Division One contest.

“We’re delighted to add Chemar to our bowling unit ahead of what is an exciting four games in the LV Insurance County Championship.” said Paul Farbrace, the club’s director of cricket.

“Chemar is a young, tall, fast bowler who will offer us something different as we look to build on our impressive start to the County Championship.

“In the red ball game Chemar has impressed internationally and domestically and I know he’s extremely excited to wear the Bear and Ragged Staff.

“I’d like to thank batsmen Hanuma Vihari and Pieter Malan for their contributions, and we look forward to welcoming Chemar very soon.”

Barbadian Holder made an encouraging Test debut against New Zealand at Wellington last December, taking two wickets but has yet to play again.

He was a member of the touring squad for the historic three-Test tour of England last year at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Holder, who has taken 81 wickets from 21 first class games at an average of 25, says he was looking forward to the new challenge of the county scene.

“Warwickshire is a fantastic club with a proud history of winning trophies and overseas stars,” Holder said.

“The Bears squad have a great opportunity to win a trophy this season and I can’t wait to contribute and help the team achieve their goals.

“I’m incredibly excited to test myself in such an illustrious competition.”

Warwickshire lie second on 145 points in Group 1, six points behind Nottinghamshire and Holder will also be available if the outfit reach the Bob Willis Trophy final.
