The police in Berbice are currently hunting a teenager who allegedly torched his grandmother’s house at Number 60 Village, Corentyne, yesterday following an argument.
According to information gathered, the teen, 17, resided with his grandmother Usha Persaud, 50, in a wooden structure at Lot 240 Number 60 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
It was reported that yesterday morning around 8 am the two were involved in a heated argument after the woman reportedly confronted the teenager about his behaviour.
Stabroek News was told that after the woman left the home at around 9.45am, the grandson allegedly started a fire with kerosene under a bed which quickly erupted causing the entire structure to be engulfed in flames.
According to neighbours, the fire quickly destroyed the entire building resulting in the woman losing all of her belongings.
As of yesterday afternoon police were still searching for the suspect.
