A quantity of prohibited items, including cellular phones, were found yesterday morning when a search was carried out at the New Amsterdam Prison.
According to the Guyana Police Force, Joint Services ranks carried out the search in the male and female quarters of the New Amsterdam Prison between 6am and 8am.
Among the items discovered and seized were 15 cellular phones, 12 cigarette lighters, nine improvised weapons, 11 pieces of broken mirrors, a cellular phone battery, 10 cellular phone chargers, two pair of scissors, four metal spoons, $580 in cash and a quantity of razor blades. Similar items have been found during previous raids at all prisons.
