Residents along the Essequibo Coast will today benefit from a medical outreach.
The event is being coordinated by non-profit organisations Youths on the Rise Guyana (YORG) and Horizon Youths, which are working along with officials from the Ministry of Health.
Founder of YORG Sasha Rawof said that the non-profit organisation is thrilled to be a part of the event in Region Two as she noted that it was the first time the organization has taken its activities to the Essequibo Coast. She said since YORG was founded in 2018, all of their activities were geared towards persons living in regions 3 and 4.
The outreach and a blood drive will be conducted at the Aurora School Dorms, located in Pomona Housing Scheme, on the coast. Doctors and nurses stationed along the coast will be at the dorms to see patients. Glucose and blood pressure testing will be available to residents while persons with illnesses may be treated or referred to a hospital. A team from the National Blood Bank will also be present.
The outreach and blood drive will begin at 9 am and conclude at 3 pm.
With medical outreaches known to be overcrowded, Rawof explained that measures are being put in place to see that all COVID protocols are followed today.
The last activity undertaken by the youth organization was a blood drive hosted in February at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Bank Demerara.
Meanwhile, YORG is also planning to have its annual suicide awareness walk, seminar and candlelight vigil on September 11. The walk has been hosted by YORG since 2018 but owing to the pandemic, all of their activities were cancelled last year.
Later, on September 25, YORG will spearhead a debate competition between West Demerara Secondary and AIM Secondary schools.
A part of their activities this year is a cancer awareness walk in October, a domestic violence workshop in November and their annual Christmas giveaway for December.
