A sex worker was on Friday sentenced to a year in prison after he admitted to committing a robbery.
Sherwin Anthony, also known as ‘Oprah,’ 33, of Lot 133 James and Cooper streets, Albouystown, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in a Georgetown court.
The charge against Anthony stated that on August 21st, 2021, at Cornhill Street, being armed with a cutlass, he robbed Cromwell Ross of $100,000 in cash, a gold and silver ring valued at $40,000, a cricket band valued at $50,000, a tablet valued at $30,000, a Samsung Galaxy phone valued at $45,000 and other property. The cash and stolen articles amounted to $305,500 in total.
The court heard that on the day in question Ross was heading home when he was approached by Anthony, who asked him if he was doing business. The man responded in the negative. However, the report said the victim suddenly found himself surrounded by four men and immediately became fearful for his life. He was then relieved of the items mentioned.
On Wednesday, August 25, the accused was identified, arrested and subsequently charged.
Anthony pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced.
