Three-year-old Sheneea Young on Tuesday suffered a fractured left leg after she was struck down in an accident at Hyde Park, Parika Access Road, East Bank Essequibo.
The incident occurred at around 5pm while Lorna Boodhoo, 55, of Lot 7 St Lawrence, East Bank Essequibo, was driving motorcar PXX 9412 along the said road.
Police enquiries revealed that Boodhoo was proceeding west along the southern side of the road when the child who was unsupervised, ran across the road from north to south and into the path of the car. At this point, Boodhoo took evasive action by swerving to the south in an effort to avoid a collision, but the right side front fender of the car collided with the child.
As a result of the collision the child fell onto the road. She was picked up in a conscious state by her 21-year-old mother who rushed her to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where she was seen by a doctor and subsequently transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
She was further examined and admitted suffering from a fractured left leg. Her condition is regarded as stable.
A breathalyzer test was administered to the driver but no alcohol was found on her breath.
