Owner of United States-based Cricket Zone USA, Ravi Etwaroo is the latest sponsor to get on board with the ‘Cricket gear for young and promising cricketers in Guyana’ project.
According to a release from the project organisers, Kishan Das and Anil Beharry, Etwaroo, whose business is based in the Bronx, USA, has donated a new E4 bat, his own brand.
“The founders of the initiative are delighted to have the opportunity to help promote the E4 brand and at the same time, provide an opportunity for a young talent in Guyana,” the release stated.
The duo lauded Etwaroo’s role in the development of cricket in Guyana and the USA. They also stated that Etwaroo was always generous and willing to give back to the sport and are very thankful.
“Their aim is to provide cricket gear free of cost for young and talented cricketers in Guyana. The project is seeking new and used cricket gear which will then be distributed across the length and breadth of Guyana,” the release stated.
So far, the project has been able to raise 12 pairs of batting pads, a dozen bats, nine pairs of batting gloves, four cricket bags, two cricket bats and cash for first aid kits.
Some 16 young players from Essequibo Coast, Pomeroon and the East Canje area have already benefited from a junior gear bag, five bats, six pairs of batting pads and four pairs of batting gloves while two clubs in Pomeroon will also benefit from two used bats.
Talent spotting will be done across Guyana along with guidance from club leaders to identify the players. Players must be in school and discipline. Players above school age will also be considered.
Das and Beharry said that they would like to thank Imran and Javed Khan of West Indian Sports Complex, Option Group, Bish Panday of P and P Insurance Brokers, Sean Devers, Travis Simon, Hilbert Foster of RHTY&SC, Ariel Tilku, Aaron Beharry, Devon Ramnauth, Sherman Austin, Teddy Singh, Leana Bachan and Imran Saccoor, Romash Munna, Ravi Etwaroo and Vishal Mahabir. More distribution will be done as soon as gear arrives from the USA.
