Eight more COVID-19 deaths were yesterday reported, increasing the total number recorded this week to 22.
This was disclosed by the Ministry of Health in a press release which stated that the country’s total fatalities have increased to 632. Seven of the deaths occurred on Wednesday and those persons were identified as four men: a 76-year-old from Region Three, a 57-year-old from Region Seven, an 85-year-old from Region Four, and an 85-year-old from Region Two.
Three women, a 49-year-old from Region Three, a 58-year-old from Region Four, and a 91-year-old from Region Seven died on Thursday. Meanwhile on August 31, a 53-year-old woman from Region Four died. This signifies a sharp increase in fatalities.
Meanwhile the 181 new cases pushed the country’s total number to 25,951. These came after 1,404 more tests were done. The total number of tests done to date is 271,365. Of the new cases that were reported, the majority were registered in regions Four, Three and Seven, with 113, 27 and 20 new infections respectively.
There are now 1,948 active cases, 116 of whom are in institutional isolation while 1,832 are in home isolation. There are 33 persons currently at the ICU while another 142 have recovered from the virus. The total number of recovered cases in the country now stands at 23,338.
