Four new COVID-19 fatalities were yesterday reported along with 161 new cases of the virus.
This was disclosed by the Ministry of Health in a press release which stated that the country’s total deaths had increased to 636. The latest fatalities occurred over a period of two days with a 66-year-old woman from Region Four and a 67-year-old man from Region Three along with a 90-year-old man from Region Four passing on September 2 while a 79-year-old woman from Region Three succumbed on September 3.
Meanwhile, the 161 new cases that were reported increased the country’s total confirmed number to 26,112. These came after some 1,738 tests were done taking the total number of persons tested to date to 273,103.
New cases were reported in eight of the ten administrative regions with the majority of new cases being recorded in Regions Four, Two and Three with 90, 28 and 24 new cases respectively. There are now 2,010 active cases, 118 of whom are in institutional isolation while some 1,892 are in home isolation.
Thirty-three persons are currently patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while 95 more persons have recovered from the virus. The total number of recovered cases in the country has now risen to 23,433.
