A four-wicket haul from Guyana legspinner, Ushardeva Balgobin spun Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) to a 49-run win over Brooklyn Falcons yesterday.
Playing in the Big 3 T20 tournament at Seaview ground, MMZ won the toss and elected to take first strike where they posted 164 for five in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Brooklyn Falcons’ batsmen could not get off the ground and eventually were bundled out for 115 in 18.5 overs.
Man of the Match, Balgobin led the rout of the Falcons, his four overs saw him returning figures of 4-13.
The former Demerara youth player was supported by Kelvin Shewpersaud with figures of 3-17.
Renrick Batson and Dino Choowenam bagged one wicket a piece.
Aamir Aflaq top scored with 30 from 19 balls, hitting two sixes and one four while extras accounted for 21 runs.
Earlier, Troy Mars top scored for MMZ with an unbeaten 33. His 25-ball innings featured two sixes and one four and he forged a 58-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Terrence Madramootoo (24). Madramootoo struck just one six during his 19-ball cameo before being bowled by Aflaq off the first ball of the last over.
Choo-Wee-Nam gave MMZ a good start with 18 laying the foundation for Nicholas Chinkoo (28) and Andy Mohammed (26) to share in a 50-run partnership for the second wicket. Rafeek Nazeer also chipped in with a run-a-ball 18.
Rameez Chaudhry was the pick of the Falcons’ bowling attack after picking up 2-32 while Adnan Sami, Faiz Rasul and Aflaq also picked up a wicket each.
