Wakenaam man held for chopping father to death

A 26-year-old Wakenaam man was yesterday apprehended by residents of the community after he allegedly chopped his father to death during an argument.

The identity of the dead man remained unknown up to press time last night.

However, the Guyana Police Force confirmed the murder, which transpired sometime yesterday.

A team of police officers has since been dispatched to the area to carry out an investigation.

According to a police, initial reports revealed that the father and son left for the backdam but the son returned home alone and claimed he was unwell.

The suspect was questioned about his father’s whereabouts but claimed that he left the now dead man in the backdam, the police said.

However, checks made for the dead man later led to the discovery of his pants and a cell phone.

The police added that the suspect then travelled to Troolie Island, where he was further questioned by villagers and he reportedly confessed to chopping his father several times during an argument and leaving him to die.

The suspect was being held up to yesterday afternoon by villagers, who were awaiting the police arrival.
