The 26-year-old farmer of Onderneeming Sandpit, Region Two, who was arrested on Monday over the killing of his father, has allegedly confessed to committing the crime because the man was “troubling” him.
The deceased has been identified by the police as Archaelus Anthony Miguel, 59, who was a labourer, of Onderneeming Housing Scheme, Region Two. He was killed around 2.30 pm at a backdam at Great Troolie Island, in Region Three.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the farmer, who was not named, admitted to residents and police that he chopped his father to death because his father was “troubling” him. He also reportedly admitted to police detectives that his father was constantly disturbing him while at the farm.
The police further say the man took police detectives into the dense forest and showed them the spot where he chopped his father and later dragged his body and hid it under some branches.
The father’s body was discovered with multiple chop wounds to his face and body. He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and doctors pronounced him dead.
According to information reaching Stabroek News, the son and the father left Onderneeming to go work on a woman’s farm at Great Troolie Island.
The police had said the son returned home on Monday afternoon, claiming that he was not feeling well. When asked by a resident about his father, the son said he left him in the backdam. Checks were then made which led to the discovery of the pants and a cell phone of the deceased. The son then reportedly confessed his actions to fellow villagers.
Residents at Onderneeming Sandpit, who were shocked by the murder, said that they last saw the father and son approximately two weeks ago.
