Women-run small enterprises to benefit from mobile learning app

The Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, ExxonMobil Foundation, and ActionINVEST Caribbean Inc (ACI), yesterday launched a mobile learning app that was developed to assist women who own micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises in low and middle income countries

The app, HerVenture, is expected to bring vital entrepreneurial skills and support to 3,000 women across Guyana by January 2022.  The enhanced knowledge the app offers is expected to help women achieve greater business success across the country, bringing huge benefits to families, local communities and the economy, and ultimately helping to close the economic gender gap.

The app is currently available in Vietnam, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, having supported over 41,000 women since its launch in 2018.

With support from ExxonMobil Foundation, the app was launched in Guyana yesterday at the residence of the British High Commissioner  in Georgetown and will be available for free to women across the country to help them grow their businesses.

“I am thrilled that we can bring it to Guyana today. We have designed the app to be fun and flexible so learners can fit it into their lives. Some juggle business ownership alongside unpaid domestic work and family care,” Chief Executive Officer of the foundation Helen McEachern said.

The training is delivered through lessons which take between five and seven minutes to complete and includes topics such as managing business records, accessing finance, digital marketing and e-commerce.

The HerVenture (Guyana) is now available for download.
