Guyana Amazon Warriors lead coach, Rayon Griffith has gotten the proverbial seal of approval from captain, Nicholas Pooran.
The Level Three certified coach Griffith, 42, was appointed lead coach of the Caribbean Premier League franchise for the first time, having served three seasons as the Assistant coach.
“Griff [Griffith] has been fantastic; we have been on the same page throughout the tournament and that is something any captain would want,” Pooran said on Monday ahead of their semi-final clash against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
This year is unique for the management team with Griffith being assisted by Strength and Conditioning Coach, Jason Pilgrim.
“He [Griffith] has been working hard as well, we have a good relationship and he is doing really good, first time being the head coach of the franchise and he is doing really well and I am happy for him,” the captain added.
Pooran said, “He has the respect of the players, especially the local players and that’s something we as a franchise always wanted.”
Griffith is also the fielding coach of the West Indies Test side and has been integral to the Guyana Jaguars winning five consecutive Regional First-Class titles in the last six seasons.
The former fast bowler represented Guyana in 22 First-class matches where he took 56 wickets with a best of 6-44. He also has a best of 82 not out. Griffith also played 22 List-A matches and bagged 22 wickets.
