The European Union (EU) will continue to support efforts here aimed at consolidating democratic values.
This is according to its Ambassador here, Dr Fernando Ponz Cantó.
In a statement commemorating Inter-national Day of Democracy which was observed yesterday, Cantó, reaffirmed the EU’s continued commitment to being a steadfast supporter of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
He stated that, free and fair elections, the rule of law, good governance, human rights and media freedom are building blocks to creating a space where every citizen feels free and empowered.
Cantó said that the EU will continue supporting efforts by Guyana, Suriname and other international partners, towards “consolidating and further developing democratic values, institutions and processes”.
