The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) are currently investigating a GDF Lance Corporal over the rape of a 14-year-old from Region One.
According to a police report, a preliminary investigation into the matter has revealed that the girl and the GDF rank shared a relationship which is alleged to have begun on September 14, 2020 until September 15, 2021.
The soldier has since been arrested.
The GDF in a release stated that it is aware of the suspect currently being the subject of a police investigation in regard to his relationship with the minor and as such has launched an internal investigation.
At the time of the incident, the soldier was said to have been stationed at one of the Force’s outlying areas.
“The Force wishes to reiterate and assure this nation that it does not condone these actions…” the release stated.
Investigations are ongoing.
