Cyclists get ready, all systems are go for the Victor Macedo road race on Sunday.
Yesterday, the Guyana Cycling Federation(GCF) got the green light from the COVID-19 Task Force essentially clearing the path for the event to be staged.
Organized by the Flying Stars Cycling Club, Sunday’s race, a 70-miler, will roll off from Thirst Park at 07:30hrs, proceed to Long Creek on the Linden Highway and return to the point of origin for the finish.
According to executive member of the club, William Howard, in excess of $500,000 in trophies and prizes will be up for grabs.
The nation’s best riders will be battling for spoils in the Open, Junior, Ladies, Juvenile and Veteran categories.
Top wheelsmen like Paul DeNobrega, Christopher Griffith, Alex Mendes, Walter Grant-Stuart, Kemuel Moses, Warren ’40’ McKay, Andre ‘Padlock’ Green along with Mario Washington, Alex Leung and Suzanne Hamilton will be the ones to watch in the various categories on Sunday.
Howard also disclosed that another event organized by the club, the Kadir Mohamed Memorial ‘Ounce of Gold’ race is also in its planning stages and is tentatively set for October 10.
That race is scheduled to use almost the same trek as Sunday’s fixture and registration for both races will be done a day prior.
