The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) on Wednesday said that an “operational error” on Tuesday led to a service interruption in New Amsterdam and on the Corentyne, Berbice.
It said that at approximately 4.15 pm on Tuesday when its engineers took a low-voltage panel offline to execute repairs to a defective fuse holder at the Canefield Power Plant, an operational error occurred, which led to a service interruption to some customers in New Amsterdam and Corentyne, Berbice.
“This operational error caused the distribution voltage for feeders connected at our Canefield Power Plant to fluctuate resulting in over 30 transformers going offline”, GPL said in a press release.
It said that its technical team began remedial work immediately to restore power. At approximately 12.15 am, all areas were repowered with the exception of Port Mourant, where a damaged transformer was found and replaced. Thereafter power was restored.
“GPL remains cognizant of the inconvenience associated with service interruptions and is putting measures in place to prevent reoccurrences of this situation”, the release said.
