Former national youth player, Richie Looknauth, smashed an entertaining half-century to steer Canal Number 2 to a 39-run win over Belle Vue Sports Club recently.
Playing at Canal Number 2, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. They piled on 180 for three in their allotted overs before containing the visitors to 141 all out in 19 overs.
Canal Number 2 were on the back foot from the start with Navindra Persaud falling off the second ball of the match. He was followed by his opening partner, Tagnauth Jadunath, to see the hosts stumbling at 10 for two.
However, Looknauth revived the innings with three blistering sixes and eight pulsating fours. He worked his way to 83 not out and added 121 for the second wicket alongside Nityanad Mathura who carved two boundaries before departing for 39.
Looknauth was then joined by Chabiraj Ramcharan who chipped in with a seven-ball 24 not out, laced with two sixes and a four.
Safraz Baksh was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 18 while Richard Bacchus picked up 1for 39 despite being blistered for 20 off the penultimate over.
The chase was short-lived as most of the Belle Vue batsmen rolled over cheaply. Former under-15 wicketkeeper, Nicholas Rajpat played a valiant innings of 64, pummeling six sixes and four fours along the way. Krishan Singh also chipped in with 29 not out.
Premnauth Ragunauth was the principal wicket taker, returning 3 for 11 with support coming from Persaud (2-18). Looknauth also picked up a wicket with his off-spin.
