The Ministry of Housing and Water has announced that it will begin enforcing measures to prevent persons from using the roadways in government housing schemes to store construction materials.
In a notice posted on its Facebook page last Wednesday, the Ministry said the enforcement activities will see persons being fined $10,000 per day if they failed to remove such materials from the roadways within 24 hours after delivery.
“Residents in housing schemes under the management of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) are hereby notified that the agency will be conducting several exercises to remove construction materials obstructing roadways, road shoulders and drainage systems,” the ministry said.
The exercise will be carried out by officers attached to the Enforcement Unit of the CH&PA. The notice highlighted that all officers participating in the exercises will be identifiable by CH&PA issued badges.
“Residents are also to be reminded that no storage of materials comprising of earth, sand, stone, blocks, cement, timber, steel, or mixing of concrete shall be permitted on the road or road shoulders,” it said. “Purchasers who fail to remove any such materials from road or road shoulders of the property within 24 hours shall be charged,” the notice added.
Throughout the country, it has become a norm for construction materials to be stored along roadways, thereby disrupting the flow of vehicular traffic.
