A clinical performance by Eagles saw them clinching the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) ‘A’ League Championship, brushing aside Young Achievers in straight sets on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
It was a polar opposite performance from the Eagles unit, following their hard fought 3-2 victory on Tuesday at the same venue in game one of the three match series.
In attendance were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr., and National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Kashif Muhammad.
Trevon McRae, who subsequently was awarded the finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) and middle blocker at the presentation ceremony, recorded 14 points in the 3-0 rout. He was aided by the combination of Kristof Shepherd and Quacy Matheson who recorded 12 points apiece.
The first stanza set the tone of the contest, as Eagles made their intentions known by soaring to a comfortable 25-18 result.
The intensity and outcome was matched in the second set, as the experienced Eagles unit took a 2-0 advantage, compliments of a 25-18 score.
Staring down the barrel of a sweep in their three match series, Young Achievers could not prevent the aforesaid outcome, as they slipped to an arduous 24-26 loss to hand the title to Eagles.
In the individual section of the presentation, Matheson copped the Best Outside prize, while teammate Carlos de la Toore was adjudged the Best Setter.
Similarly, the Best Libero award went to Bepaul Bandoo of Young Achievers while club-mate Juan Valesquez was adjudged the Best Opposite. The Most Improved Player was Kirby Richards.
According to an official release from the DVA, “The Demerara Volleyball Association in conjunction with the Guyana Volleyball Federation would like to extend gratitude to the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport and the National Sport Commission for continued support in the development of volleyball in Guyana.”
