Despite a 2-4 series loss to England Under-19, West Indies youth players, Isai Thorne and Matthew Nandu were able to chalk up exceptional performances throughout the six Youth One Day Internationals.
Thorne, the 16-year-old fast bowler from Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club in Berbice, finished as the most successful bowler for the Caribbean unit.
While only playing four matches, Thorne tallied eight wickets at an average of 23 and economy rate of 5.11.
The tall pacer was impressive in his first two matches capturing three wickets in each innings and followed up with 2-41 in his penultimate match.
Nandu on the other hand, showed his diverse style of batting with back-to-back half centuries to close out the tour on a high.
The right-handed opening stroke maker got a good start in the first match making 21 before he was run out. However, in his second match he was struck in the rib cage and was forced to retire hurt on four not out.
The setback did not slow down the batsman as he bounced back with scores of 6, 51 and 80. He ended with 162 runs from five innings at an average of 40.5.
The Guyanese was only behind Teddy Bishop (271 runs) for West Indies in the runs column and they were the only players to notch up half centuries on the tour.
Also, the Everest Cricket Club first-division player proved potent with his off-spin, taking four wickets including a best of 2-35 in the same match he made 80 to secure a 17-run win for the visitors. (Romario Samaroo)
