A twenty-six-year-old Mabaruma resident died on Saturday and two others are critical after the vehicle they were traveling in toppled in the vicinity of Tiger Hill, North West District.
The dead man has been identified as Mark Wells of Mabaruma. The two men critically injured and hospitalised are Leroy Chu and Anthony King.
There has been no report from the police on the fatal accident.
Wells’ aunt, Amy Cassius last night told Stabroek News that her nephew and others were traveling out from White Water after attending heritage celebrations in the village.
Stabroek News learnt that they made a stop at Yarakita. In the area of Tiger Hill, the driver failed to safely navigate a turn and as a result the vehicle toppled.
The aunt said her nephew and others were travelling in a Canter and it is unclear at what time the accident occurred. She noted that at the point where the accident occurred, a cellphone signal is not present and persons would have to travel some distance before being able to communicate with persons.
According to Cassius, details of the accident remain unclear to the family and they are awaiting the findings of the police for clarity.
