The Ministry of Health yesterday reported the deaths of five more persons with COVID-19, including a 92-year-old man.
The deaths, which occurred between Sunday and yesterday, have taken the country’s death toll from the virus so far to 738, which included 113 for the month up to yesterday, making September the deadliest month since the initial outbreak.
In a press release, the Ministry of Health identified the newest fatalities as a 74-year-old woman from Region Two, who died on Sunday; a 43-year-old man from Region Six, a 92-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman from Region Four, who all died on Monday; and an 85-year-old man from Region Four, who died on Tuesday. They were all unvaccinated.
The Ministry’s release stated the patients were admitted with COVID-19-like symptoms and tests later showed they were positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard showed that there were 141 new confirmed cases from 1,492 tests. As a result, to date 29,824 cases have been confirmed from a total of 302,314 tests that have been conducted.
The new cases were reported in eight of the ten administrative regions, with the majority being reported in regions Four, Three and Six: 73, 30 and 20 respectively. So far for the month of September, some 4,276 cases have been recorded, making this month, though incomplete, the one with the highest infections recorded.
The dashboard showed there were 3,680 active cases, with 155 of those persons in institutional isolation while some 3,525 were in home isolation. A total of 30 persons were in the COVID-19 ICU.
