A man who allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened the Mayor of Rose Hall, Dave Budhu, was on Wednesday apprehended by police.
The Guyana Police Force in a statement yesterday said that a 55-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abusing and threatening 39-year-old Budhu. It was reported that Budhu was in the company of the Town Clerk Natasha Griffith and other staff on Wednesday at Republic Arch Road, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, when the man approached them.
According to the statement, the mayor and staff were offloading tools from a truck when the suspect approached him on a bicycle and started to verbally abuse him. Further, the suspect threatened to kill him while brandishing a knife that he drew from his waist.
Subsequently, Budhu became afraid for his life and ran for the relative safety of the market. He also summoned the police, who then arrested the suspect. The police said that the suspect was told of the allegation made against him, cautioned and arrested before he was escorted to the Albion Police Station.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
