Steve Atkinson and Jayson Atkinson, the father and son accused of abducting Essequibo bus driver Mohammed Imran Khan and battering him, were charged on Friday with assault causing actual bodily harm.
The charge against them, read by Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court, states that Monday, September 27, they unlawfully assaulted Khan so as to cause him actual bodily harm. They are accused of dragging him out of his parent’s house and taking him to the road leading to the Essequibo Technical Institute and giving him a sound trashing.
Khan has claimed that the duo zip-tied his hands, threw him into the trunk of their vehicle before taking him to the isolated area, where he was beaten.
The Atkinsons pleaded not guilty to the joint charge and were remanded to prison until October 13.
