The police were yesterday looking for two men who robbed and brutalised a 60-year-old Corentyne businessman on Thursday evening.
The Guyana Police Force said that the robbery occurred around 7.18 pm at Belvedere Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
In a statement, the police said that the businessman was robbed as he was entering his yard after returning from a day of work.
According to the statement, one of the men was identified by the businessman, while the other was unknown. The police said that enquiries revealed that the businessman concluded his daily business at his place of business and headed home in his van with an undisclosed amount of cash and two Samsung Galaxy tablets valued $100,000, a Bluetooth Automatic box valued $60,000, a quantity of Digicel and GT&T phone cards and several personal documents.
The police said that after the man arrived home and exited his car, he was confronted by the two men, who drew their handguns, pointed them at him and demanded that he hand over his belongings. The man hesitated and the men then used their guns to hit the man to his head and face several times.
The police said that one of the men then held on to the businessman while the other bandit went into the man’s van and removed bag on the front passenger seat with the mentioned articles. The men then escaped on separate bicycles. The businessman was later escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who treated and sent him away. The police said that checks were made in area for the men but to no avail.
