A Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara labourer was found dead in the upper flat of a wedding house in the wee hours of yesterday.
The deceased is the brother of the bride who got married on Saturday.
The dead man has been identified as 34-year-old Rickey Persaud of Lot 8 Harrison Street, Goed Fortuin.
According to a police report, Persaud’s body was discovered by his 30-year-old sister-in-law. Enquiries revealed that about 2:30 am yesterday, the sister-in-law, her husband and other relatives were at the wedding reception of Persaud’s sister, Malinda Persaud when there was a power outage.
The sister-in-law, according to police, reported that following the loss of power, they noticed that nearby houses still had electricity and as such, she and her husband went to the upper flat of the house to check whether there was problem with the main switch or fuse box.
The woman recounted that when she switched on the power from the main switch, she saw Persaud lying motionless and facing upwards. The police were summoned and several persons were interviewed. Persaud’s body was examined but no mark of violence was seen.
Persaud’s body was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
One person is in custody assisting with investigations.
