The Ministry of Health is working on a new vaccination card system as instances of forged COVID-19 booklets continue.
Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony made this revelation during his COVID-19 update yesterday where he stated that there are currently around 12 to 15 cases of forged vaccine cards that the police are investigating. He said that he hopes that these investigations can conclude speedily and persons charged.
“…this is a very dangerous thing in the sense that if you are facilitating somebody to get the card but they didn’t get the vaccine then when they get sick we will probably think that they have been immunized and they are getting a breakthrough infection when in the first place they did not get the vaccine at all,” Anthony said.
He said that an end must be put to this practice as he urged those healthcare workers who have been involved in the activity to desist as they will be disbarred from practicing and face the full force of the law when caught. “…very soon we are going to introduce a different type of card that’s going to be harder to forge and if people did not have the proper documentation in the first place then they are not going to get the new card,” Anthony said.
The Health Minister stated that forging the vaccination card is a serious offence and as such those who are caught buying these cards will be charged for tendering a forged document.
