Murder has been ruled out in the death of Dannie ‘Rickey’ Persaud who was found in the upstairs of a wedding house at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara.
An autopsy revealed that the man’s death was caused by gastritis compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
The post-mortem which was conducted by state pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh on Monday morning was done in the presence of a relative of the deceased, Thakur Persaud, and Constable 23226 Geewan.
Gastritis is a condition that affects the stomach and can result in bleeding in the stomach It is suspected that the victim may have become dizzy, thus falling over, resulting in him hitting his head.
Persaud’s body was discovered by his 30-year-old sister-in-law. Police enquiries revealed that about 2:30 am on Sunday, the sister-in-law, her husband and other relatives were at the wedding reception of Persaud’s sister, Malinda Persaud, when there was a power outage.
The sister-in-law reported that following the loss of power, they noticed that nearby houses still had electricity and as such, she and her husband went to the upper flat of the house to check whether there was a problem with the main switch or fuse box.
When the woman switched on the power from the main switch, she saw Persaud lying motionless and facing upwards.
