High speed internet for Black Bush Polder long overdue

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter to request Internet Providers to look into providing internet service to a long deprived area, Black Bush Polder. One may think this is a community deep in the jungle but it’s just seven miles off the public road in East Berbice-Corentyne.

Bringing high speed internet to residents of Black Bush Polder is long overdue. Not only would this benefit all residents of the Community who so far have been deprived of this basic necessity it would allow schoolchildren to have access to the tools that will make them contributing citizens in the future.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made online learning a reality for many people. Online learning is now commonplace. Video calls and streaming have become vital in order to stay safe. For the people of Black Bush Polder, this has been especially challenging because internet access is not available, well at least one that actually works. All we can get access to is Atlantic Wireless and Global Access, which doesn’t even work.

I have tried contacting GTT, E-Networks, NexLink Communication among others, but unfortunately Black Bush Polder isn’t in their coverage areas.

We’re not asking for free internet but a reliable, affordable internet service so that our children, our people can get access to the internet like everyone else from other areas.

As access to better internet service becomes more important than ever, we are asking internet providers to look into the Black Bush Polder area to bring your service so that the residents of this area aren’t left behind in this age of technology.

Sincerely,

Lisa Budhu
