Dear Editor,
The recent raging debate in your newspaper over local content is truly a lot of words for what is a very simple issue. The oil sector and its subcontractors are focused on only three things: the cost, quality and reliability of the provision of goods and services.
The energy industry is highly sophisticated, complex and fast moving. Many excellent Guyanese companies are already winning contracts but others are losing out simply because they are not up to standard, can’t meet timelines and their prices are just too high.
Should the sector pay more and risk delays to billion-dollar projects just to appease some members of the GCCI? They need to quit complaining and do better.
Yours sincerely
Francis Newton
