The trial of ex-policeman Colin Bailey and Colin Grant who are accused of the 2013 murder of Bailey’s common-law wife—businesswoman Sirmattie Ramnaress—is set to commence next Tuesday.
A jury was empanelled yesterday morning before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow, who will be presiding over the trial at the High Court in Demerara.
The indictment against Bailey and Grant is that between August 30th and 31st, 2013 they murdered Ramnaress, called ‘Kavita’ or ‘Savo.’
The jointly-charged duo pleaded not guilty to the capital charge.
Justice Barlow has set Tuesday, October 12th, for the start of the trial.
Ramnaress was found dead on the morning of August 31st, 2013 at her Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home.
Bailey is being represented by a battery of lawyers led by defence attorney Nigel Hughes; while Grant is being represented by attorneys Dexter Todd and Dexter Smartt.
The State’s case meanwhile, is being led by Prosecutor Sarah Martin.
