A Rasville, Roxanne Burnham Gardens youth was yesterday charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm.
Eighteen-year-old Tyreke Sounders, of Lot 4591 Rasville, Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown, was taken before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The particulars of the charge state that on October 3, 2021, at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had a .38 revolver in his possession while he was not the lawful holder of a firearm licence in force at the time.
He denied the charge and was remanded until November 3.
Police Prosecutor Richard Harris objected to the man’s release and told the court that the police arrested Saunders after being informed of certain information. Harris told the court that Saunders was at a house party at the location stated in the charge. The police, acting on information went to the party and saw the man acting in a suspicious manner. He had a handbag in his possession and the police conducted a search on both the man’s person and the handbag. Following the search, the .38 revolver was allegedly found in the bag. As a result, he was questioned about it and told of the allegation. He was then taken into custody and then brought to the court where he was charged and remanded.
