Dear Editor,
It is instructive to readers, and encouraging to hopeful candidates of the wide variety of vacancies advertised daily in the press by both private and public sector organisations. Which makes the recent announcements of appointments of up to some twenty Labour Officers truly laborious food for reflection. The brevity of time between the two sets of appointments befuddles thinking about:
i. The applicable job requirements
ii. When and how circulated
iii. The minimum qualifications and experience notified
iv. The selection team (in the absence of the long experienced Chief Labour Officer) and the process of selection
v. The content and period of training, and the trainers involved
vi. The specific content of the Job Descriptions
vii. The respective immediate supervisors at assigned locations
viii. The length of the probationary period
ix. The arrangements for the performance review process that would confirm suitability for the position.
x. The expected announcement of:
a) confirmation of appointment, presumably on contract; and
b) termination of employment for reasons specified
The above process should apply to all gratuitous Public Service appointments.
Sincerely,
E.B. John
