The Guyana Chess Federation is set to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 1 virtually via Zoom conference at 18.00 hours.
A notice was published in the September 30 edition of the daily newspapers where it indicated that financial members will be invited.
Incumbent, Frankie Farley, confirmed to Stabroek Sport that he will be seeking reelection. Farley pointed out that the list of financial members is roughly around 100 persons.
The positions that will be contested include President, Vice-President, Company Secretary and four board members. The notice indicated “only nominations from teams who constitute a complete slate of financial members will be accepted.”
These nominations will be accepted between October 21, 2021 at 06.00 hours to October 24, 2021 at 18.00 hours.
On the agenda will be matters arising from the Minutes of the AGM from August 4, 2019, President’s Report, Financial Report, election of team and executive management committee, amendment to constitution and adaptation of development plan for 2021-2026.
In a procedural document shared to this publication, it detailed “In the past, the GCF held elections which required the election by vote for each member of the executive committee. The incorporation of the Federation as a private company replaces the executive committee with a board of directors. It is proposed that elections be conducted by election of the directors by slate instead of by post.”
According to the document, “Slate elections allow an aspiring Presidential Candidate to be selective of the persons on his/her team which may lead to more cohesive and collaborative management of the Federations duties and practices.”
The document highlighted that a three-member election committee will be set up with an executive member, except the president and two “senior members” of the Federation. No candidate can be on the committee. In the instance of the entire slate seeking re-election, “the President can appoint a Senior Member of the Federation in place of the executive member.”
