The National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) says that the Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) fertiliser distributed by Cyril Singh Agricultural Enterprise has been found to be below the Manufactured Declared Concentration.
In an advertisement in Stabroek News, NAREI said that three separate analyses of the TSP had found it be at less than half of the manufacturer’s declared concentration.
The manufacturer had declared a concentration of 47% but analyses on May 14th and 28th and June 1st showed the concentration to be 20%, 19% and 16% respectively.
“The Institute is therefore advising the general public to take note as this below average concentration can result in reduced growth and nutrient uptake and therefore farmers will experience reduced yields. Rice farmers may also experience substandard quality of paddy”, the notice said.
NAREI said that along with the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals (Control) Board it has taken measures to ensure that future imports of TSP are in conformity with declared concentrations.
